Weekend: December 4-6, 2009

Every weekend, I will detail my activities and expenses to provide an example of how to implement a frugal mindset while still having a fun and active life.

Friday

After work, I had leftover spicy chicken and rice for dinner then watched more of that Everest show on Netflix. A friend last-minute invited me out to a local bar to see a band play. I debated going because I wasn’t too keen on spending $8 to see a band plus drinks but I decided that I would just have a beer beforehand and suck up the cover to hang out with some friends.

Well, I am definitely glad I went because we just hung out in the bar (cover-free) instead of paying to see a band. For drinks, my friend came back from the bar carrying two cokes and then proceeded to “mod” them under the table with supplies she brought in her purse. I had no objection! Someone else bought a pitcher of beer, so I had a glass of that. The night was a lot of fun! I met new people, stayed there until the bar closed at 2a and had a great time.

Every weekend, I will detail my activities and expenses to provide an example of how to implement a frugal mindset while still having a fun and active life.

Friday

On Friday, I made myself a chicken quesadilla and just relaxed at home. I did some sewing and played more video games. Not too exciting, I know, but I worked late and just didn’t feel like going back out.

Weekend: November 13-15, 2009

Every weekend, I will detail my activities and expenses to provide an example of how to implement a frugal mindset while still having a fun and active life.

Friday

On Friday night I made myself a quick pasta meal using the marinara I made earlier in the week. I had it three times last week so I just froze the rest for later in the month. My friend let me borrow his PlayStation3 for a week so he can write a paper without distractions. So, Friday night around 7p, I made the mistake of starting the game Uncharted 2…. and that was my entire Friday night.

Ditch the routine and make things special again

I created this blog to provide examples of how a frugal lifestyle, can also be a fun one. The way I do this is by considering my “fun” stuff as a treat for me!

Spend Less, Spend Better

I don’t make many purchases during the week. The only money I’ll spend is for bills that are due. I don’t eat out for lunch or dinner and I don’t go shopping after work. Sound boring?

Well, by not spending $50/week on lunches, I can instead spend that money on something really fun over the weekend! I can go out … Continue reading »

Friday

I spent Friday evening just relaxing. I did some writing, played Call of Duty, and read for part of the night. I went to a costume party Thursday night so I didn’t feel like doing much Friday. Still, it was an enjoyable evening.

Saturday

I spent Saturday being oddly, though surprisingly, productive! I went grocery shopping in the morning. This was mainly to buy peanut butter to make brownies … Continue reading »

Frugality Does Not Have to be Boring!

  • A month ago I read this post on The Simple Dollar: 21 Ways to Reduce your Spending without Making Your Life Miserable. When I first read the reader’s question, my thoughts went in a totally different direction from Trent’s answer. This was partly the inspiration of this blog!

I believe it is possible to still be active and go out and have fun and drink and party and socialize and have friends and do cool things while still being frugal. Yes, I realize that “frugal” may have a negative connotation to some of us younger folks but there are ways to save money without getting out your coupon organizer! Continue reading »

    Friday

I worked late on Friday so by the time I got home, I didn’t feel like going back out. I also had just received my new sewing machine so I was very excited to try it out. I made some dinner at home then played with the sewing machine until it was time to go to bed.

    Friday

After work, I met up with a friend at the Skylark Diner. This is a wonderful restaurant that has delicious food and a cool ambiance. I ordered a turkey/avocado wrap. The food was just-okay but the conversation was wonderful. In hindsight, I wish we went to a cheaper place but I still consider the $11 (after tip) to be well spent. Continue reading »
