Weekend: October 23-25, 2009
Every weekend, I will detail my activities and expenses to provide an example of how to implement a frugal mindset while still having a fun and active life.
Friday
I worked late on Friday so by the time I got home, I didn’t feel like going back out. I also had just received my new sewing machine so I was very excited to try it out. I made some dinner at home then played with the sewing machine until it was time to go to bed.
Friday Total Cost: $0
Saturday
On Saturday, I finally had time to drive to STS and get my tire patched. I was told there was a nail in it a few weeks prior but I just kept filling it with air until I had time to get to the shop. The repair came to $25.
With the repaired car, I drove to the grocery store to pick up snacks for the Horror Movie Night I had planned later in the evening. I picked up some vegetables for the party and milk & bread for the next two weeks. This small grocery trip cost $28. When I got home, I chopped up all the veggies and stuck them in the fridge. Then I made some banana bread and muffins to use up a bunch of bananas. In the afternoon, I met up with a friend at Starbucks. I ordered a short latte ($2.80) then visited for a few hours. I didn’t need the latte but I enjoyed the conversation.
Back home, I plated the veggies and muffins, cleaned up the place a little and made sure I had all the movies. Around 8p, people started showing up and we watched movies for the rest of the night. I used Netflix to get a movie on DVD then watched another movie that was available on Instant Watch via my Roku.
Saturday Total Cost: $55.80
Sunday
After breakfast, my boyfriend and I went to a local ice cream shop because it was nice out. He treated me to a pumpkin pie milkshake, which I drank while we walked around a park. Back home, I hemmed some jeans for a friend, made dinner, and watched the Yankees game.
Sunday Total Cost: $0
Total Weekend Cost: $55.80

Oct 27, 09 at 6:57 pmHey Leslie! I stumbled on your blog via Frugal Babe and was lured in because my name is Leslie too. :)
Your weekend sounds a lot like how mine usually go. I end up hemming all my friends clothes since I am the only one who knows how to sew. Hope the nice weather lasts a little longer…

Oct 31, 09 at 2:42 amHi leslie! Great name!
That is so true about the sewing! One of my friends is moving away and told me I could help him with the moving by hemming up all of his pants before he moves! I don’t mind though, at least it keeps me busy.
